intensives FOR MEN OR WOMEN
Two-day intensives are available for those who do not desire or are not yet ready for a week with other survivors. Our intensives provide 2 therapists devoted to your specific needs.
The Rest of The Journey provides separate programs with different "focuses" for men and women but one thing is the same, The Rest of The Journey offers a safe and supportive environment designed to help participants find new hope through private counseling, intensives, ZOOM sessions and our restorative retreats.
Reasons for a more private way of healing include:
1. Privacy. If you are a high-profile person or for any other reason do not wish to share private information with a group, this provides the security you need.
2. Time constraints. Work, small children, or other considerations may prevent you from being away from home for a full week.
3. Individualization. Need specific topics such as preparation for court, parenting struggles, to be addressed that cannot be covered in depth in a group format.
4. Age. Children and teens need specialized care with a trusted adult present.
5. Health issues. Limited mobility or other special needs may require individual consideration which may not be possible in a group setting or in a multi-level facility.
6. Family healing. Often spouses need to understand their wives and need help to navigate the difficulties that childhood abuse or abuse from a previous relationship imposes on their marriage. Sometimes parents want to know how to help their child, whether a minor or adult child.
7. Men. Intensives allow us to serve the needs of male survivors.
Unlike the retreats, we do not provide housing, breakfast, or dinner for our intensives. We do provide lunch at the site and take a break for a little down time. We provide a list of local hotels and restaurants.
All intensives are in Kennesaw, Georgia and are held on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 am until 4:00 pm.

Adults
Adults often wait until problems seem insurmountable before seeking help. While I welcome “critical” cases, my joy is in teaching all my clients howto manage their emotions and lives better and avoid crisis situations in the future. Some of my clients find the guidance and solutions they seek for an immediate problem in one to three visits. Others come with years of accumulated trauma and may need two to three years of therapy. While not all behavior is acceptable, it is understandable when you comprehend the circumstances in which it developed. Sometimes people are reacting normally to an abnormal situation.

Teens
Teens sometimes do not understand their own emotions and behaviors and certainly can’t explain them to someone else, especially their parents. They need an understanding neutral person to help guide them through difficult times. I enjoy helping families navigate parent/child relationships. The teen years are wonderful but challenging times. It can be as stressful to parents as it is to adolescents. Sometimes they both need a mediator to help them navigate uncharted territory. Often teens are resistant to counseling but after the first visit they usually are more than willing to continue. Through various activities, teens begin to understand themselves –make better choices, and create a happier life for themselves and those around them. Teens want respect as much as their parents do.
